Battle ship and Curser's

An interesting presentation was given by Mr Ian East on the 7th May 2025 entitled “Battle ship and Curser's".

Ian started by showing HMS Victoria (1859) was a screw-propelled, three-decker, first-rate ship of the line, the last British wooden ship of the line to be built, HMS Dreadnought a Royal Navy 98-gun second rate. This ship of the line was launched at Portsmouth at midday on Saturday, 13 June 1801 and HMS Comet was one of 20 Acorn-class destroyers built for the Royal Navy in the 1910s. Completed in 1911 she saw active service in the First World War and committing on the differences between a Battle ship and a Curser.

He went on to talk about other HMS ships, HMS Collingwood was a St Vincent class Battleship in the 1st Battle Squadron at Jutland, and HMS Warrior was Britain's first iron-hulled, armoured battleship. Launched in 1860, when Britain's dominance in trade and industry was at its peak, compared with HMS Vanguard, a battleship launched in 1944. The only ship of her class. Displacing more than 44,500 tons, measuring 814 feet long and capable of 35 knots she was the largest and the most sophisticated battleship ever built for the Royal Navy. She was also the last battleship ever built for the Royal Navy.

This was very good morning for all our members who thoroughly enjoyed the presentation.
